WHY DRAWING THINGS YOU HATE, WILL HELP YOUR CREATIVITY
Drawing things that you hate will help your creativity believe it or not. I have always thought the opposite was true. When I was in design school I didn’t like drawing subjects that I had no interest. It was tough to get motivated to draw without having to drawing something I did not like. However, I came to realize my entire approach and perspective was completely wrong inclusive of my attitude. It was never about drawing something you do not like. It’s about gaining the knowledge when you draw something completely new.
Due to fear, we often gravitate toward our comfort zone. That is why when we are good at drawing something, we tend to stick to that subject or even draw the same view over and over again instead of drawing a view of an object that is more difficult.
When you are trying to be more creative, gaining that knowledge is going to be key in order for you to connect the dots later. That is why you see me drawing subjects that I typically do not entertain. I do it because it is out of my comfort zone and I know I stand to gain some knowledge that I can re-purpose at a different time.
