Sketching a Car in 3/4 View in REAL TIME.
If you are new to the site, then I’ll tell you up front that I have always loved cars (as I work in the automotive industry). Though the idea behind drawing is to help you develop your creative and problem solving abilities, drawing cars itself is an extremely challenging subject to draw. When I was younger I used to think that drawing cars was really easy. I was stupid. What else can I say? When you are young…you generally think many things are easy until you have to sit down and actually work at it to get results.
Then we begin to lose interest and try to work on things we are more comfortable with. Such is the nature of human beings. I see this at work a lot. People do not like change, so they tend to the same thing over and over again because it is comfortable and familiar. For some people trying to learn a different skill set is very difficult. So designing and drawing cars, being an interior and product design guy, was a big challenge for me.
I’ll have to say that drawing a front 3/4 view of a car is by far the EASIEST way to draw a car because you don’t have to worry too much about perspective. It’s also a great view to communicate to people the main theme of your car. You can still communicate all the details of the car within this view.
Advantages of the 3/4 View:
1. Can capture all the details of a car such as
a. Proportion
b. Stance
c. Theme
2. Not focused on perspective drawing
3. Can manage ellipses easier
What’s going to be different about this tutorial is that you will see this in real time. Many of you have requested that I create sketches without having to speed up the videos. So this give you an idea of how long it takes me to create a quick marker sketch.
I hope this video helps. If you have any questions, please be sure to comment and let me know what you think. Just remember to continuously practice. I believe you can do it.
Peace,
Arvind
