It’s coming to the end of the year and like everyone else, we are preparing for the Holidays!  So we want to definitely end the year with a cool detailed BMW 3 series sketch in a top 3/4 view.

The video be broken down into 2 parts and had been recorded in real time so you can get a sense of the speed of execution.  This part will focus on laying down the foundational lines for the more detailed sketch in Part 2.

Step 1:

Minor axis for the ellipses of the car

Step 2

Loosely establish the wheel base and profile of the vehicle

Step 3

Finish off with lightly adding the details for the components such as the headlamps, grill, windshield, and character line.

This will set you up for part 2.

Take Away:

STAY LOOSE!  Don’t sketch heavy handed! Above all…HAVE FUN! :) We’ll see you back here in a few days before Christmas for the Part 2.

Tools used:

Tablet PC

Software – Painter 12

Wacom Pen

The above tools were used to “simulate” traditional drawing methods.  Please note that if you ARE a beginner, it is key to start creating your sketches with paper, markers, and pencils.  It is THE best way to charting your path to be a sketching pro!
