3 TIPS ON SIMPLIFYING SHAPES IN PERSPECTIVE
Let’s face it. Perspective drawing sucks big time..but I will give you 3 tips on simplifying shapes in perspective.
TIP 1: PICK A SIMPLY OBJECTS
Sometimes the mind simply is not ready to draw very complicated objects. You have to build this skill over time by rationalizing basic shapes first. That is why cubes are always introduced to people to draw in perspective because it is easy to comprehend. For this particular demo, I will have to say that drawing boxes is pretty boring so I decided to draw something a little more complicated. It is a hot wheel Honda City Turbo
TIP 2: BREAK DOWN THE OBJECT TO THEIR PRIMITIVE SHAPES
Break down the object into primitive shapes. So think about building blocks and pretend you are drawing blocks and stacking these blocks on top of each other. You can slowly start to sculpt the object with primitive shapes. What makes this approach easier is not having to worry about organic shapes with a lot of radii or smooth surfaces.
TIP 3: SHADE THE OBJECT
The final tip is to shade the object and give it a 3-dimensional look. If you start to practice these techniques you will find that your mind will build a visual vocabulary of primitive shapes. From here, we can start to build more complicated forms.
Be sure to practice this technique as often as possible. You will be stunned by how well you can create and understand form.
